What to see

Sir Henry Pellatt's castle was completed in 1914, with 98 rooms. He and Lady Mary Pellatt lived here less than ten years before financial trouble forced him to leave.

Secret passages, and rooms with period furnishings, designed by architect EJ Lennox.

  1. Main floor

    Great Hall

A 60 ft oak beamed ceiling and a 40 ft bay window. Sir Henry never finished it; the work was taken up in the late 1920s, when the castle was briefly a hotel. At Christmas, the 20 foot tree stands here.

  2. Main floor

    Library

A long panelled room with the original herringbone oak floors, crystal chandeliers and bookshelves.

  3. Main floor

    Conservatory

A bright room of windows over the gardens, under an Italian stained glass dome, with a wrought iron fountain and a rose marble floor.

  4. Main and second floors

    Sir Henry's rooms

Original early 20th century living quarters, with period furnishings: Sir Henry's study and suite, the Windsor Room and the Round Room.

  5. Third floor

    Queen's Own Rifles museum

The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada Regimental Museum fills much of the third floor. Sir Henry rose from private to command the regiment, from 1901 to 1912. Included with General Admission.

  6. Third floor

    2 Intelligence and Camp X

In the Austin Room: uniforms, photographs, tools and spy gear, from combat knives to suitcase radio sets. In the Second World War, the castle was home to Station M, a secret workshop that made gadgets for the SOE and Camp X.

  7. Third floor

    Group of Seven collection

Artwork by members of the Group of Seven, active from 1920 to 1933.

  8. Towers

    Norman and Scottish Towers

Spiral stairs climb to the two towers, with views over the city. The Scottish Tower closes at 3 pm Wednesday to Friday and 1 pm on weekends. The Norman Tower stays open.

  9. Basement

    Hollywood Film Gallery

A look behind the scenes at the films and television shows shot at the castle over more than 30 years.

  10. Below ground

    The tunnel

An 800 ft tunnel, 18 ft under Austin Terrace, leads to the stables. Its Dark Side of Toronto exhibit tells the city's darker days in archival photographs: Prohibition, the Depression, the Great Toronto Fire and Toronto's first plane crash.

  11. Stables

    Stables and antique cars

The garage and carriage room show vintage cars from the early 1900s: two 1910 Maxwell Model Q, a 1922 Ford Model T Woody, a 1924-1925 Ford Model T Touring and a 1929 Ford Model A.

  12. Stables

    Backstage Celebrity Gallery

Upstairs in the stables: life-like silicone figures from films and events held at the castle.
